Sequence of the Surahs of the Qur’an


The Qur’an remains intact in its original form, language and content as the Final Word of God. The question of the sequence of the Surahs of the Qur’an is only one aspect of its intactness.
The verses of the Qur’an were often revealed in particular contexts when there was an immediate need for divine guidance; whereas the sequence of the verses as they appear in the Mushaf (the name of the book in which the Qur’an is recorded) now is different from this chronological order. The point to be underscored here is that this sequence was not determined later by any compiler, but by the Prophet himself as inspired by Allah (SWT). Allah says in Surah 75, verse 17, the meaning of:

*{Surely, its collection and recitation are Our responsibility.}*

When the beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, received a revelation, he dictated it to a scribe, who promptly wrote it down.
